Teleclasses are the newest form of adult learning with cutting-edge information. They are a way of getting information locally, nationally and internationally. Take your pick!

Teleclasses are sociable: Meet new friends without leaving your home. Become connected with people from Indiana or if you choose, from all over the world. You will find people who have common interests and concerns. Experience people with diverse backgrounds, cultures and ideology...become a part of a global community.

Teleclasses are educational: They are an excellent way to get degrees, certifications and if you wish, to get help with starting your own business...or to learn more about yourself.

Teleclasses are unconventional: They allow us to do as we please. You can make your calls from almost anywhere at any time...from your boat, airplane...your bed in your P.J.’s...
while you are sunbathing...all you need is a telephone.

Teleclasses are ways to save: Ways to save time, money and provide a hassle-free life. Can you imagine learning a new skill without having to get up early... driving in rush hour traffic...and then having to sit the whole day in an uncomfortable chair... surrounded by people and sounds, that can be totally distracting? It is possible by becoming involved with an anonymous teleclass that promotes self-reflection and ease of learning. Some of these teleclasses are free...many are fairly inexpensive.

Teleclasses are easy to use: The classes are only a phone call away. One needs to call in on a conference line, like a chat line. The cost to call a bridge is a standard long distance charge. There are no conferencing fees, so you would just pay your long distance carrier whatever your rates are. That’s much cheaper than gas and parking.

Teleclasses are therapeutic! If you tend to have problems sleeping, like millions of other people, many teleclasses are recorded and uploaded so they can be accessed during the early morning hours.

Why not join in with other innovative people, just like you (yourself?) and take a risk...join in on the cutting-edge education...to grow and evolve!

Put Retirement on Hold

Here is the latest new about how to look at your retirement according to Marika and Howard Stone. (It’s quite ironic that our own Aina Clayton has just become certified as a facilitator with their program.) Tell us what you think about the articles?

Motley Fool Rule Your Retirement
Vol. 2, Iss. 12, December 2005
Plan Well, Retire Wealthy
www.ruleyourretirement.fool.com
The Good Life
Put Retirement on Hold
by Marika and Howard Stone

Marika and Howard Stone had a near-retirement experience and came back with a mission: to help people at or approaching so-called retirement age to choose otherwise. The mission became a website (http://www.2young2retire.com/), a book (Too Young to Retire: 101 Ways to Start the Rest of Your Life), and a program to train facilitators to work with groups on renewal and reinvention. Howard, 70, and Marika, 64, have no plans to retire.

Are you 50 or older, or expect to be some day? Here's a fact to take into account in planning your future: Work, rather than a leisure-based retirement, is a far better choice for the second half of your life, particularly if it is work that taps into what you're really good at and feels like its own reward.

If you have already absorbed this message, you're certainly not alone. According to recent surveys of people 50 and older, better than two-thirds of respondents plan to postpone retirement indefinitely, or never retire. Given the vast resources of experience and talent in the 50-plus workforce and the threat of a worldwide labor shortage, that's a change, all of us — politicians, the business community, the health-care industry, and essentially everyone who cares about the future of our planet — should be celebrating.

Working in retirement sounds like an oxymoron. Truth is, a lot of folks in their 50s, 60s, and older who call themselves "retired" are anything but. Many have reinvented themselves with a passion and creativity once considered the domain of much younger folk.

Some traded in the fast lane for vocations that reflect personal values — people like Bob Griffith, who left Wall Street to become an author, motivational speaker, and trainer. Others spread their wings as first-time entrepreneurs — Paul and Sands Bellizzi, for instance, whose alpaca ranch is paying off handsomely. Yet others are drawn to community service; consider retired naval officer Rick Koca, whose award-winning nonprofit organization, Stand Up for Kids, serves homeless children and runaways.

"Our jobs determine, to a large extent, what our lives are like," says Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Drucker School of Management professor and best-selling author of Flow. No surprise, then, the desire to do good work, make a contribution to the lives of others, feel proud of what we do, and know we are being compensated and treated fairly, doesn't diminish with age.

So take a sabbatical. All working people deserve at least one of these in a lifetime. Then, prepare to design your Act II with the energy and enthusiasm it deserves. Here are seven ideas to jump-start the process:

1. Who are you? What fired you up before you got swept away by the real world — favorite academic subjects, sports, hobbies, teachers, and friends? Photo albums, school yearbooks, and the like may provide clues.

2. Inventory your assets: natural talents, acquired skills, and so-called intangible qualities, like your optimism or sense of humor. Be bold. Include aspects of your personality that might not show up on a résumé or application for a business loan. If modesty forbids, ask a friend to create the inventory for you. Post it in clear view.

3. Consider an apprenticeship or internship in a career or business that appeals to you. Many professionals — e.g., photographers, artists, and chefs — can use an assistant in exchange for showing you the ropes. Former banker Henry Coryat and his wife, Isabel, a gallery owner, spent a year as apprentices to learn the art of metal casting, then went on to launch a thriving foundry.

4. Got a free weekend? Consider giving your dream job a test drive with Vocation Vacations (www.vocationvacations.com). For a longer, low-risk gig, try a "short-term job adventure" by visiting http://www.backdoorjobs.com/.

5. Read about other people's experiences. Search through this excellent archive of career change articles from The Wall Street Journal's free career site: www.careerjournal.com/jobhunting/change/index.html

6. Figure out what else you might want to do. Fast Company's survey of hot jobs, based on Bureau of Labor statistics, is another useful guide: www.fastcompany.com/articles/2005/01/top-jobs-main.html.

7. Consider offering your services as a volunteer in an area that appeals to you. It's a great way to gain experience, expand your network, and discover new talents, while making a contribution to society. Great places to look: http://www.volunteermatch.org/ and http://www.idealist.org/.

Why work in your later years? Because a paycheck helps calm those "bag lady" fears; because work provides a sense of community and an opportunity to continue to learn and grow; and because fulfilling work is one of the best strategies you can adopt to stay healthy in mind, body, and spirit.

Key Variables to Retirement Planning

by Denver J. Those variables include:

One's beliefs about growing older.

One's attitudes, education, and habits around money.

One's approach to life, primary tense, and what is deemed important.

One's health and wellness.

One's quality of relationships and support system.

Let's take a look at each one of these areas through a series of questions.

Growing Older

What are your primary beliefs about growing older? Is it something that you look forward to? Dread? Aren't concerned about? What do you associate growing older with? What do those around you think about it? What messages do you get from society about growing older? How is all of this impacting your plans for retirement?

Money

What have you been taught about money? What does money represent to you (e.g. security, freedom, power...)? In what ways are you using your money? How does money play into your plans for retirement? What concerns do you have around money; what are you doing about those concerns? How are these answers impacting your plans for retirement?

Life Approach, Tense, Values

How would you describe your approach to life? What is the purpose of life, in your opinion? What is the primary tense that you tend to think about the most: the present, the past, the future? What do you consider to be most important in your life? How are your answers impacting your plans for retirement?

Health and Wellness

In what ways are you consciously creating health and wellness physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? What changes would you like to make in these various areas? How do the people you associate with view health and wellness? How does health and wellness factor into your plans for retirement?

Relationships and Support System

What are the most important relationships in your life? What are your relationships supporting you to become? How are those you associate with impacting your thoughts about growing older, money, values, and your retirement planning? What type of relationships would you like to enjoy in retirement?

Obviously, there are many variables that come into play when planning and creating a meaning and fulfilling retirement. The ones above are some that I recognize. How about you? If you had to identify the key variables involved in planning and creating YOUR retirement, what would they be? And what are the powerful questions under each of those variables?

I hope you have found this useful. And thanks for stopping by today!

New Challenges for Retirees

by Denver J. Hudson, Life Coach

Today's world is presenting a great deal of challenges for all who are considering retiring. There are a variety options when it comes to retirement. "Traditional" approaches that revolve around rest and leisure, and new emerging definitions that deal more with an individual's inner life and topics like "life purpose" and "finding your passion." And then there's just the whole idea of forgetting "retirement" all together.

One thing is clear to me. The times that we live in are forcing us to become more responsible for the shaping and creation of our own life experiences. We simply cannot rely on companies (or the government) to take care of us for the rest of their lives. In fact, we may very well outlive the companies we work for!

With the new realities of our quickly changing world, people are finding themselves in positions where they are required to become more self-reflective, more intentional, more responsible for the choices they make about their own lives. And historically - for many - that's just not been required. Today's world is requiring parts of ourselves that have previously not been needed, and this can be quite uncomfortable.

Discovering more about what we want to create in life - and how to do it - is the call of our times. The ability to create our lives - to step into the role of creator of our own life experiences - is not something we have been taught. The first half of life just didn't prepare us for that. It was more about how to fit in. How to "dance with the system." How to be a part of a team, follow orders, live out of duty or obligation.

This is far different than what the second half of life is asking us to do. It's asking us to "dance with life." To look within, where our lives begin their unfolding. To learn how to discover what is most important to us. To create a vision that is filled with passion and purpose - our new sources of energy in the second half. Yes, the second half of our lives is inviting us to become the conscious creators of our own experience.

The changes we see in society today are creating all kinds of confusion for many. Things aren't the way they used to be. And they never will be again. Change is the one constant we can count on. And in many respects, we spent the first half of life learning how to establish "stability" in our lives, not how to dance with change. Now, as society speeds ahead, and as we experience the natural changes of our own lives, we realize we have much to learn.

As you reflect on retirement and what it means to you, please know that we stand committed to helping you explore your own journey. We have a process that can help you discover what is most important to you, chart the course, and then support you along the way. For some, the years ahead are scary. But when you learn what it takes to dance with life and create your own experiences, you realize there is nothing to be scared of, and much to embrace.

Welcome to EnRICHing Your Future

Hello, and welcome to the EnRICHing Your Future blog.
